And I thought BMW couldn't make it look any uglier...

They have removed that "sagging" line that was under the door of the old 1 series. I think it looks better. No other company makes a rear wheel drive manual transmission hatchback. I like this car.

I like the rear view much better than the front, but it is still uninspired. The headlights are awkward looking and the grille doesn't mesh with the rest of the front too well.
The front looks like it was designed by 4 guys, each responsible for a different design element, none of which talked to each other.

Looks awful, looks BIG. Really annoying that BMW is going to fwd because they claim they can't make rwd cars meet efficiency standards. Utter b.s., they're not even *trying*. The 3 is as big/heavy as a 5 should be, and the 1-series is WAY big and heavy relative to what a 3 should be, IMO.
BMW *could* build a modern version of the 1600/2002 (what the 1-series *should* have been) at less than 2800 lb., and a modern version of the E30 M3 (what a modern M3 *should* be, the current M3 should be the M6!) at less than 3100. *IF* the will was there. Clearly it isn't, and hasn't been in ages.
