I test drove a 07 Subaru Legacy Spec-B today.
I test drove a 07 Spec-B today.
I contacted the internet rep. they have a 'no haggle' internet price that is about $500 over invoice.
This was a supervised test drive, the car had 12 miles on the clock, I guess I drove it about 12 miles. I didn't push it beyond 6/10 ths either in acceleration or in handling. My co-pilot is a big guy call him 250 lbs and I'm 200 lbs.
My initial survalance of the car its very tastefull in and out. I like the color as well as the black interior with blue alcatran inserts on the seats and the door.
I am currently driving a S2000 and a 99 Passat. Of the three the Passat is the most comfortable fit while the S2000 is the least. The S.B seems to be tighter than the Passat front and rear.
I guess I drove about 20 minutes and my right leg was getting fatigued b/c of no support (low/short seat cusion). Maybe I need to fiddle with the power seat a bit, but I put it all the way down b/c my head was quite close to the celing (darn sunroof). I'd pay extra to get a car without a sunroof.
Driving was quite good. I was just driving like I had my mom on board. It was a bit damp and I was not 100% comfortable with the seat and shifter. Also I was aware of my co-polot and the newness of the car. But I did get a few mild push-backs in the seat. I guess the way I drove it it was as quick as my 190hp V6 Passat at max acceleration.
On the damp back roads it handled well and had good thrust in most gears even when it was below 3000 rpm. It reminded me of a small V6 (like my Passat 2.8L) with not much lag.
For comparison I drove a 07 GTi with DSG tranny a while back. I would say the VW was more comfortable (for me) with better interior and ergonomics. But of course the Spec.B had more punch. Hard to tell on my test drive b/c the GTi was a solo drive so I got on it. But the tests show the LGT is a second (or more) quicker to most speeds.
Overall I was impressed with the Spec.B. I thought the shifter was easy to use and the car moves well even if you are in too high a gear (unlike my S2000).

I am not going to buy one just yet. I am going to drive my Passat into the ground unless it starts to cost an arm and a leg.
When I buy a new DD, the Spec.B will be high on my list. I like the All-weather ability of the Legacy as well as the price/features/power vs a 3-series. I know the 3-series is a better sports sedan, but this is going to be my 2nd car and I don't want to spend $40K or I don't want to get a stripper 3-series.
I will test the 3-series before I buy anything.
Does anyone know when the Legacy will be copmletely re-done? If it's this time next year maybe I can hold out to see if they are going to do a performance spec.B.

The Spec.B was quickest around the track and quickest in all acceleration times, stageringly quicker than the MS6 (not sure if the Mazda was up to par).
