I took my course at ulster county community college. To find the location closest to you call (800) 446-9227. Off the top of my head I think the course cost ~$250 and yes you get a waiver at the end of the course to go get your license from the DMV.

I guess PA is one of the few states where the MSF course is free. You have to pay for your cycle learners permit, but that is it. They fund the courses with money made from the permits.

A good place to start is by signing up on www.sportbikes.net and introducing yourself in the women's forum. We have ALOT of lady riders over there and they'll be glad to share all their knowledge, and you might make a few friends while you're at it

years ago and when I got back into biking I got a Used Honda Shadow 1100.
While they can do, in top speed, more than any sane person would wanna go,
they are perfectly happy to slide along at 40-80. They are low to the ground, and just an all around pleasure to ride.
My 2C
P.S. they are right about the rider course and protective gear.

Another thing about the Rice Rockets is; the people that take them to great speed aren't totally insane they are just driving them like their motors and gearing and suspensions demand. Read an article when I was looking for the bike that turned to be my shadow 1100. He was talking about the feelings he had when he traded his Ninja in on a cruiser; on the way home riding over roads he had normally traveled before on his Ninja where 100 didn't seem quite fast enough and here he came on his new bike doing 40-60 mph and felt like that was about fast enough.
