Hyundai Rumored to be Planning Porsche 911, Nissan GT-R Rival

Price is at least as much of a rumor as the whole project. Maybe it'll come in at a $55K base price and get us all salivating.
I can imagine Hyundai making such a grab at a halo car. Their reputation is already turned around in the American market from "pice of crap" to desirable. Timing feels about right, as a method of increasing market share (not sales of this specific car, just brand buzz).

I agree with a lot of your post, but in my view a Hyundai badged SL550 competitor - at any price - would be totally ignored by nearly every member of the SL550's customer base.

If a $100K Hyundai had better outperform a GTR if its going to be at the same price. It better smoke a 599 GTO for that kind of coin. I get what Hyundai is trying to do by typically offering the same car for less money - so they better offer a whole lot of car if they are going to ask for the same amount as it's rivals.
