Hypothetical question: CRV into an AWD Monster?
Ok, this isn't quite monster garage material, but wanted to throw out a question to everyone out there. ..
Since Honda doesn't currently make an AWD vehicle, is it possible to take a CRV, modify the suspension, height, tires, etc., pop in a turbo 2.4 liter engine (there's a lot of space in that engine bay to really tune that baby), and turn it into something like a Civic wagon with AWD?
Not that anyone would consider doing something like that, but I'm bored and figured I'd throw it out there. Ridiculous? Yes. But feasible at all?

Honda makes two (or more?) cars with sort of an AWD system, the Pilot & the Element. They are not full-time AWD, normal mode is FWD but if/when needed (e.g. for traction) power is sent to the rear wheels making the car AWD while it's needed.
So, hypotheticaly, if you start with one of these it will be much easier to modify them - maybe you can just electrically modify the "real-time" AWD to make it "full time AWD" without any mechanical mods.

take it, rip off all the suspension shit, get yourself some Unimog Portal axles and coilover shocks. Drop in any engine you like, pick tranny and transfercase. Do some killer fabrication, 3-link the front axle, 4-link the rear. THEN you would have one badass and unique vehicle.

Well, since the CR-V is built off the Civic platform, you could perhaps throw that AWD transfer case, etc and make yourself a killer AWD civic. Although, it would not be a financially sound move by any means. It would be much cheaper to buy an evo or sti if you want an AWD monster, and they would be more reliable too.

Yea, sorry, after rereading what I wrote I realized I wasn't clear enough. I meant that since Honda doesn't make an AWD sports car along the lines of an STI or EVO, what would be the feasibility of making the CRV into an AWD sport wagon hehe.
