I agree, dunno if your numbers are right but I follow your logic.
Funny how they compared a prius to a camry and not a corolla or civic which get better mpg (21/31 vs 28/37). Also, if you primarily drive on the highway, the benefits become less clear.
People are rather dumb, transportation cost is more than just mpg, its the cost of the car, the total cost to run it (maitenance such as tires, gas, brakes, 30/50/etc K service) and of course gas. During these times of the alleged impending financial doom, the answer isnt to save money on gas by buying another new car, but rather downgrade your car to something like a VX or HF. And as far as green goes, hmmm recycle a 15 year old VX that woulda been junked or by a new hybrid?

 

So started to post up reason the X6 is going to be DOA when it hits the market. Did not expect to see this from you Onehot2k.

 

Was being being semi facetious, but again, unless you go over those same roads in same conditions hard to guage what getting 17 mpg on your other cars equates.

Also new EPA mpg ratings for the S2K & IS 350 are around 21 combined, so you definitely have a heavy foot. If your plan is doing 85+ mph than the hybrid is not be a good fit.

 

a new camry is just NOT the same as a new prius.

but the money does fund the research, and that's not a bad thing, although i'm not convinced hybrid is the best or only answer.

 

The Prius is surprisingly spacious. In driving & sitting in my parent's Prius, there is plenty of rear leg room, moreso than a Civic or Corolla. I thought about as comfortable as a Camry. I realize both cars are different size, but the interior seemed similarly sized when I sat in them, not nearly so when I have sat in a Civic. I would say it is more similar to my brother's previous generation Accord.

 

The prius does have significant room. I would never buy one but I have driven over 1,000 miles in it. I know without question I would average >60mpg on the trip computer (I have). Something that would be impossible in a fit.

The fit is nice for what it is. It isn't much cheaper than a civic LX , and gets worse gas mileage. I love hatchbacks, but still couldnt bring myself to buy one. I just bought the s2k instead .

 

I bought one yesterday. 1992 VX (white). Salvage title...but otherwise in great shape. 80,000 reported miles.
