This is a tough room If high tech is king then lets talk about that.

I think we'd all like to see a more continuously variable cam profile and intake runner length (BMW's system?). A camless engine (servos or ?) is coming soon. That'll be too cool.

I know Volvo has a tilting head system to vary compression ratio (in trucks now?). We have a ways to go with improving internal combustion engines and it seems like the sky's the limit.

I know there's oil sensors that spectroscopically monitor oil condition better than the rev's & temp system in the vette. That's a big deal to truck fleets but we'll get the benefit too.

How about the new all-electric brakes? Reduced weight and faster activation (shorter stopping distance).

Anyone else know some stuff in development we might see on cars soon?

For interesting reading, check this out. See the 6.3L 500hp 3 valve C6 Z06 motor and see the 'dual' disc brakes on the first page.

Since everybody is talking technology I will really stir things up with this. Does anybody know about how far along the development is for a turbine in a street car. I have not heard anything on this since the late 80's when the Japanese had some working prototypes but were unable to overcome excessive cabin heat. M1 tanks, hydroplane boats, and tractors (tractor pull competition types) all use turbines and are far superior to anything in their class. I really thought turbine cars would be available by now.

Did you know that GM almost made a rodery powered Corvette? It was going to be rear engined too.

Just a fun fact.

Oh, and I'm an S2k owner who is considering getting a Z06 for my next car. Don't make assumptions

by your logic, the Rx-8's engine is the best in the world. 275 lbs and 238 hp.

Good question on the turbine, since I've heard of at least two motorcycles with turbines. Leno has a Y2K and there's another (forget the name) that uses a RR turbine. Could be the low starting torque is slow to start a heavier car moving?
