I predict this country will become more and more like Europe as time goes on, whether we like it or not. We'll just learn the hard way. We'll all be driving Smart Cars around before long.

i was paying 4.5 a gallon in SF last visit, gas price going up make everything that involve driving suffer, food, transportation, etc. Hopefully it will get better when the next president take over and not screw us over for another 8 years.

I share your hope for better gas prices, but didn't realize our president controlled them...

I am thinking about a GG car (M3) and the price of gas is not a great thing at this time, but I figure it's not any worse than a SUV or PU truck which millions of people drive everyday.

The question about diesel cars is the supply and demand. Currently the US refines only 15% diesel and Europe refines a higher percent but still they use most of what they refine. It's not cheap or easy to change a refinery over to making diesel so if we start to buy many more Diesel power cars the price likely will stay higher and go higher than currently.

I believe in Europe as well there is a tax break for diesel cars which makes them more attractive. I do not mind the idea of a Diesel car but currently our choices are limited and likely when more people do buy them they may find higher diesel prices and higher initial purchase price would negate some of the savings at the pump by higher mileage.

I don't like Bush but blaming Bush for gas price is like blaming weather man for rain.

I think this is rather naive...

The question is actually "How will $4 a gallon gas affect you?"

I autocrossed with a Smart Car convertible this weekend. It was pretty funny to see.

Bush as a single individual may not to be the blame, but our governments are clearly not doing enough to help.

As an example, just this past weekend I drove to Boston. Regular was $3.42 in NY; as soon as I drove into MA it went down to $3.18. There is no real reason for this difference in price other than the fact that NY over taxes the crap out of gas as a way to make money.

Our economy is in a recession, thinking it is not and one might be coming if foolish, it is already here. Most people deal with the increase in cost by making small changes to their lifestyle. For myself I no longer go out to eat for lunch Mon-Fri, I now pack my lunch. I also know I rarely still go out to eat dinner or Saturday breakfast as another way to cut back. It's all these little changes that effect the retail environment; in my case high gas prices affect the restaurants in my area a great deal.
