make that four... my wife is also a doctor.

However, i hate the implication that a doctor automatically makes money. Its not true. I went to med school (although I am not a doctor), and let me tell you, times are changing. Family practice, general, ER, Peds, don't make much these days. Unless you are Radiology, Derm, Anesthesia, you aren't going to be banking that much.. and even then, that doesn't guarantee huge incomes.

to Ace123, residency is a long time and they are capped on what they make. A word to the wise, don't let her moonlight. Its not worth it.

as to the topic at hand... I don't buy new cars, only used. (depreciation is a bitch) I refuse to spend more than Maximum 2 months salary, and typically, I pay cash.

My advice to you.... get 'em while they're young. All the good girls are taken by the time they're 24. If you wait until you're older (late 20's, 30's, 40's), then you better be sure you have what it takes to grab one of the youngin's, otherwise you'll be stuck with whatever is left. That's the position I'm finding myself in (I'm about to turn 31). Most of the girls that are about my age and are still single are pretty defective (unattractive, overweight, materialistic, needy, crazy, damaged or some combination of these).
Yeah, and the 24 and under crew are immature. Everyone has their issues, not everyone is defective. Honestly, what a terrible way to look at the "world".

Ha, you can add pretty much any part of NJ. I live in SJ (the "cheap" region of NJ) and you're spending at least $300k for a decent single family home in an "ok" neighborhood. You're spending at least (and I mean at least) $350k (if not $400k) for a single family home in a "nice" neighborhood. And the difference between "ok" and "nice" is how the school system is perceived.

The prices I mentioned are for nice homes that wouldn't be considered a fixer upper. Hell, even the nice, newer townhomes go for over $300k in most places. I don't even think about central and north Jersey. My buddy bought a new home in Edison for around $900k. That same house in south Jersey (on his lot, 3/4 to 1 acre) would probably be $500k to $600k depending on the town. That same house in most of NE Jersey would be over $1 million.

I know I'm preaching to the choir too for you CA folks. Oh, though, one last thing, I could afford my mortgage comfortably if my freaking property taxes weren't ridiculous!!!!!

So that obviously sways what would a reasonable % of car cost to gross income would be. I'd have to give this some thought and run some numbers for me to think what was reasonable.

my GF/fiance will be a "doctor" in 18 months. that's what she calls her degree but I tease her, I tell her only MDs are real doctors.

No problems man. I dont plan on mooching off my wife. Thats if I ever I get married. Its just weird that the girls I end up dating usually are trustfund babies. You would never know by looking at them or what they drive. Must be a Southern FL thing. Personally I dont need another person to complete me. It would be nice to have a person to compliment my lifestyle...if it dosent happen oh well.
