By Tyler Linn

The design of the 2023 Acura Integra has been hotly debated since its unveiling.

It looks like a civic with a new badge.

^ That's it. They brought it to market quickly, it didn't cost them much as all of the parts were already on the Civic, all they did was develop a new badge, and slight changes to the front end. Voila, quick and easy Integra on the cheap.

To be specific, the windshields stayed the same and the doors are the same but the front, back, hood, and lower panels are all new, as are all the lights. It effectively has a new body, on the same chassis, without being able to move the absolute hardpoints.

So why not just keep the ILX name? Oh that's right, because nobody liked it. So they threw more BS against the wall to see if they could trick people.

All of this is kind of fun to watch. When some were not happy with the new "Supra" those that liked the looks and the performance (And of course the BMW fans) were all defending it and acting like those that did not like it were just being nostalgic and dumb. But if the re-used model name is used on another car that turns out not exciting, suddenly people care about them re-using the same name. All the same really.

Model names are used in marketing BS all the time to get people excited about new cars. Hell look at the Bronco. They showed off a really cool model, but turns out a lot of them are nothing but an Escape lol. It has happened many times. They are going to put a name on the car that they think will help it sell. We as buyers just have to not blindly run to buy because of name. Nothing more to it. Yep this is just a Civic and we have all bitched about it in other threads plenty lol. Car enthusiasts like us wont buy them. But I have a feeling that will not matter as we are a tiny fraction of car owners in reality.

You’re referring to the Bronco SPORT. There is an actual Bronco. And Ford doesn’t think reusing the Bronco name will help it sell, it IS selling. Of all the comparisons, the Bronco is the worst. Ford actually put some effort into it. Now the actual roll out leaves a lot to be desired, but that’s a different matter. The Integra is a snooze fest. It’s about as minimal effort as a manufacturer can put into a car.

The Supra is also a much more defensible endeavor than this. I can't think of another release that is this bad. Using the Mustang name for the Mach-E was bad enough but at least it wasn't the actual Mustang. This Integra is an abomination and a really pathetic "effort."

BRZ/86 - shared platform
Bronco - new platform, with lower grade option on old platform
Mustang E - different platform crossing into SUV - don't like it but its not a badge swap
Supra/Z4 - shared platform, BMW with Supra skin on it. Goofy but there isn't a prior model that the supra is built off of in the toyota line up

This actually harks back to the 50s and 60s where car companies would put badges or stripes on a car and call it something new. Honda sinks to more pathetic lows. ILX is a dressed up civic, the integra was something different and had a sweet as motor in better trims. No one is laughing, we're all rather disappointed.

With the ILX they actually changed the rake of the windshield compared to the equivalent Civic; this has even less distinction.
