How crazy is this
I've always considered myself a car enthusiast and I tend to buy cars in my price range brand new and I guess you can say *hot* at the time. Just like I bought one of the first 10 S2000's that hit the shore in 1999.

Seems reasonable. You are moving into a different phase of life where different priorities are being addressed. I say do it. If you aren't happy you can always get another really nice car. Just my $.02

You'd be smart. I don't have the will-power. Need the new-and-shiny. And the Roth would be extra smart too (we're a bit over the phase-out limit or we would use that too).

ditto to what the others have said. Priorities and interests are shifting. Your plan sounds smart to me, as long as you can live with driving a Neon for a while. Take a break from the car life, focus on the homelife/family (vacations and such) and reevaluate your desires later on once you have gotten yourself more settled and "where you want to be".

I was going to say to take 43k for your used IS350 and run. However, I realized you're talking CAD.
If I was a few years younger, not married, no house, no pair of puppies, I'd be rolling a pretty damn sweet ride. The fact of the matter is your priorities change as you grow up.
I still want a new Corvette and plan to get one, but I'm not lusting for it like I did when I got my new one several years ago. I continue to debate on saving for a couple years and paying off the house. However, if I buy new Corvette and a new SUV for the wife, that obviously postpones any mortgage elimination.
For a 3 mile commute, go for it. Like you said, buy a used S2000 garage queen in a few years and rack up the cash in the meantime.

Agreed. You enjoyed having great cars, not you just gotta make sure you can continue to buy more toys in the future. Good stuff man, I'm kinda going through the same thing right now... but I keep procrastinating because I'm 23... but it's never too early becaue I feel like I'm already late.

I have often thought a nice old CRX that gets 40-45mpg would be an excellent daily drive...cost $4k or so.... but it just won't happen.
Goodluck with the neon. I think as a car person you will quickly get rid of the neon and get something newer.... even if you only have a short commute.
