Which raises an honest question: does everyone around the world use the same light systems? I know some people put yellow between red and green - kind of a warning that the cross traffic may not have stopped yet, or to prepair to go.

Huh? We have yellow light here in U.S....and in Asia as well. They even do combo's in Asia: light goes from green to yellow, to yellow and red (means put in full throttle and cross 
), and then to red. I think they also use several variations of blinking combo's...
