Unhappy "Honey, I Wrecked the Porsche"

My dad emailed me this, and I though some of you might find it interesting.

"Honey, I wrecked the Porsche"

Its an article about the growing rate of wrecked exotics, most of which occur because of driver error.

Enjoy!

Just because you can afford it doesn't mean you can handle it.

I recall someone calling the Z06 a "dentist killer", but that term really applies to any of today's high-end performance cars. After over fifteen years autocrossing and doing track days, ~250 hp is about as much power as I'm comfortable wringing out, so it scares the hell out of me that people with no competition experience or even training in high performance driving are tearing around in 400 - 500 hp cars.

It doesn't matter if you drive Ford Fusion or a Ferrari F430....if you drive like an a-hole in it on public roads.....bad things are bound to happen. How many times have we seen it on this very site?

I just don't need 500 hp on the street. 250 is fun, 350 is more than needed imo.

And that's about 95% of the people who buy such cars. I agree, I too would be fine with anything between 250 and 350hp on the street. I'm not into stoplight drags, and street tires won't be able to hook up properly, so just take the 400+hp car with slicks to the track, and keep it legal.

This article doesn't surprise me at all. In fact, it's a couple years late IMO. It's bad enough teenage kids spend all their cash tricking out their Civics and then do something stupid and bifurcate it on a telephone pole, now you got Lohan and Hilton paying six figures for sought-after cars and turning them into modern art.

Money most definitely does not bring with it ability.

From Wantone's thread.

A prime example of the article demographic. Young yuppie with more money and more car than experience... GT3 meet wall.

There should be more shifter-kart competition series. For $10k you can get more car than you can handle. You'd lose that in depreciation in one year of owning a GT3... not to mention the cost of having to replace all those parts from the wreck.

I wish the Lotus in back of the GT3 had a video camera...

So somebody crashes their fill in the blank. Why do you guys give a squirt of plss? It's their money and car and if they don't hurt someone else who cares? I could see if you were about to buy the car that just got crashed but if you have no vested interest in it and they wad it up why would this bother you ? Is it sour grapes that they are crashing cars most of you will never own?

How many S2000's have been crashed vs. exotics? Nobody gives a crap if the Honda gets wadded other the owner who is making payments on it or those who have to chime in and give "their expert reason for the crash". Shaking their dad like finger and say you need to go to "racing school".

400HP crap my pick up truck I just bought has almost 400hp it's not that much. My turbo Busa has almost 400hp. It's jst a number.
