What's wrong with the Volvo engine??!?

I had a 1964 Volvo 122S where the engine was still in great original condition when I sold it at 150,000 miles. And, it had its original clutch although I had done my best to burn it out by towing U-Haul trailers whenever I moved. Backing up a hill with a trailer while feathering the clutch can create quite a cloud of smoke.

Until you get something you like better, this is a great engine. Plus, those wonderful side-draft carbs NEED you in a way that makes modern cars seem clinical. You've got to fill their damper cylinders with oil once a month and syncronize them. You could use a Unisyn guage to syncronize, or just stick a piece of hosing into your ear and into the throat of each carb in the same place and do it by the rushing sound. As I remember, it had a 10.5 : 1 compression ration, which was very high for the day.

Don't run it down unless you've had the chance to run it.

The body looks to be in excellent shape. Gee, 6K seems like a nice price to me.

Is it really that rare? I've know two houses w/ an s600 parked on teh driveway (not in the same city though).

W/ a volvo engine and transmission, 7k may be too much. Its kinda like a Star Wars figurine box which is opened (it loses a lot of value).

Nothing's impossible with enough time and money, Daniel. Getting parts would be difficult, I imagine.

Man that brings back memories for me of my aircooled days trying to get my type 4 to run right. Well anything with more then one carb to run smoothly. FI is great but nothing beat the sound of some nice side drafts.

If this car was closer to me it would more then likely be in my garage, can't bring myself to ship a car like that to Cali though.

I even have a open bay right now. so must resist snagging that one if I am ever going to finish the rest of my projects.

That S600 is in amazing shape for a New England car! Sure it's not exactly original, but that 1.8l Volvo drivetrain is lightyears ahead of the original 0.6 Honda motorcycle drivetrain in terms of drivability, reliability, performance and parts availability. That little car is probably a real rocket with that "huge" Volvo motor in there making more than double the power of the stock powerplant.

I think it would be neat to rebuild an S600 with a modern Honda cycle powertrain from like oh, say the CBR1000RR. Hmmm, 1500lb car + 1.0l, 150+hp, 11,000+rpm CBR motor with close-ratio CBR 6spd transaxel... Yep, that should do nicely.

Could you put in a CBR 600 engine? It's 600cc with a higher readline and about twice the HP.
