I understand the complications that this causes, but I'd rather have a straight six modeled after the f series then a v6.

Tilt the motor, lower the displacement, do whatever it takes, that would be a badass motor.

Nah. Must have been 6 months ago (or less) when some Bloomberg report talked about Porsche still having the highest profit margin, still $20k+ per vehicle. Makes sense to me too. Does anyone really think that the Carrera S motor costs more to make than the base Carrera's? I don't. Sure you get a few nicer things on the S over the base, but keep in mind the Carrera S costs almost $15,000 more than the base Carrera.

Agreed, after going car shopping with the mother-in law....

It is pretty dumb to buy these soulless cars for $30k, that are going to be worth $18k in 3 years.... Not too mention the interest that was charged on top of it.

We get re-badged Vauxhalls from GM if they would have used the original vx220 for the sky/solstice I think it would have been a much better car. Something that could compete with the S2000 performance wise. I am not sure about the interior build quality and it does not have classic good looks either.

The NA model weighs 1,918 lbs and has a 2.2L with 145HP and 150TQ 0-60 in 5.7s which is probably as fast or a little faster than an AP1

The turbo model weighs 2,050lbs and has a 2L turbo with 197hp and 195TQ 0-60 in 4.2s it looks like some version of the engine produce up to 240hp.

Their are probably a ton of reasons why we cannot have this in the US it also may not be that reliable. This car seems like it would be a lot more fun than a 3000lb car with 300hp..

Porsche definitely has the highest profit margin % of any current manufacturer. I remember hearing high teens as a %. But it isn't necessarily baked into the base vehicle price - it's those ridiculously priced options. Most Porsches that you'll find on a dealership lot today are outfitted with $20-30k in options. Full leather interior - almost $10k. Fancy color paint - $3-4k. Want those really nice sport seats? $8k. I mean, hell, painted Porsche crests on your wheels - $800. If you don't believe me, pick any model and go through the Porsche configurator on the website. My options wish list on a GT4 is almost $12k.

The profit margins on those options are insane, and one of the reasons why I shop the secondary market. I do pretty well, but I don't see myself shopping for a new Porsche anytime in the next decade (or two).

I would take a lesser potent version of the 1.6 liter boosted v6 engine theyre using in with the Honda/McLaren indy cars now.. 2800-3000 lbs 2door coupe with the option of a convertible version like the 370z.. rear wheel drive standard or awd for those in bad weather states would help with less accidents since a lot of people cant handle rwd on a normal basis.. Honda could make this for about 40k or less today believe me..If Nissan can keep their 370z in production why cant Honda make something similar

yeah its me

v6 and turbos? BAH! Blasphemy! Heritage sells (but I guess turbos and horsepower do, too)

My AP3 formula:
-Keep the price ~$30k and RWD only.
-2.4 Liter, 250 hp/250 tq 8k - 9k rpm with the latest DI and variable timing/lift tech (I would also consider a 2L turbo with 300/300, but it still needs to rev to at least 8k).
-6sp manual or DCT options
-Updated ap2 platform, fixed roof with convertible option
-Same hard edged suspension (minus the 4x4 gap, why does only BMW get this right??), NO secretary base model
-weight ~2800 lb

Sit back and watch it sell. This formula would be relatively inexpensive to produce, appeal to more people, but remain exclusively a pure sports car.

Part 2:
-Open up the Honda performance catalog for bolt-in roll bars, exhaust, suspension, functional aero, ECU retune, etc.
-start spec race series
(yes, this is sealing a page from mazda. Look at how much press that squinty new miata is getting though)

I don't expect any s2000 replacement to be in the 30's. If the BRZ/FRS and Miata can sell for 25-30, I'd expect 40+ for a s2000 replacement.
