HONDA Rebel
#13
Do you want a bike just to cruise around on, or do you want a bit of handling capability and fun potential?
The Rebel 250 is basic transportation, and it has a *really* low seat, if that's what you want. Otherwise, the potential for thrills is pretty limited.
I'd go Ninja 250 for small-displacement cheap transportation with some sporting pretensions.
If you really like the 919, the 599 (a.k.a. Hornet 600) is the smaller-engine version of that bike.
The SV650 is a fantastic bike. I have an '01.
'round these parts (northeastern U.S.A.) you could easily pick up a 1st gen SV650 for less than $2500. Cheap money for a great bike.

Why not look for a Honda NT650 (Hawk)?
Answer to both is the same:
'cuz they're very hard to find, and when you do find a good one they want crazy money for 'em.
Used 1st-gen SV650's are MUCH easier to find, much newer (duh), perform much better, for about the same money.
I LOVE those Hondas, it's a real shame the public at large didn't appreciate them. It's not exactly realistic to expect to be able to find a good one on short notice. Expect a long search and expect to have to travel to get it.
