isn't the upcoming cr-z supposed to be their next "sports" car? (note i put quotes on the word 'sports').

CRZ is the NEXT honda sports car.

The sports car of the future is compact, lighter, fuel efficient and all about the suspension.

yesterday's sportcar= V10 6mpg 300HP++++

tomorrow's sportcar= electric, 60+mpg just enough hp with dangerous amounts of torque.

so what if it is not the fastest in a straight line.

In the future we need to burn less or zero gasoline (and have fun doing it). Remember what happened earlier this year with the gas prices. We were all hurting and we could not do a damn thing about it. How easy people forget..........

ITO is

I just wanted to post this up to discuss what effect (if any) this will have on the S2000 (such as value, desirableness, etc) .

imo the dealers has jacked the price up on second hand S2000's over here since they have stopped production, almost impossible to get an AP2 at a dealer now.

Honda decided to get all granola on the world and be environmentally friendly - there's no problem with that, but its not making any more sports cars until it can make eco-sports cars. In other words, you're next sports car purchase will be from another car company.

What does that have to do with making a sports car? Other manufacturers are making sports cars today, developing technology and improving on cars as they can. Honda just abandoned sports cars altogether.

I personally don't think Honda has really ever been in the sports car market, they've really only had the S2000 and the NSX and they let both die of a slow and painful death. I can't say I'm surprised at all by this, Honda is known for playing it safe.

the simple fact is that honda facked up by not making an automatic for the s2000. they could have made it a profitable venture and instead decided to cater to the hard core enthusiast. Heck even Ferrari had caved and put auto trannies in some of their cars, can you imagine an f430 with an automatic.

The simple fact is that if you want to sell cars, you have to make them with automatic tranmissions...

flame suit on...lol.

Well, they are taking a gamble by going the unconventional route. I always believed Honda has something up their sleeve, and I think by focusing all the resources to green tech they may be the leader in it, and THAT is what makes profits, not sports cars.

Of course, if gas prices suddenly drop then Honda is gonna be screwed. I just hope they don't throw away the V10 records just in case their green direction fails

But, we can always hope they'll make a Tesla killer too. All electric RWD CRZ?

Ferrari put SMGs because their PRIMARY market is sports cars. The s2000 was a "birthday gift to Honda" and wasn't really designed to make money.

Not only that, Enzo Ferrari himself didn't like the direction Ferrari was going to, which was aiming towards enthusiasts rather than hardcore drivers with a lot of money and who actually watch F1
