The best mpg I got in my 08 FIT was 32mpg city/hwy and that's when it was brand new. Maybe if you drive like my grandpa you might see 40mpg. But if you drive the FIT like I do, 30mpg is more reasonable. Where did you find a 09 FIT for $10K? I'll trade mine in for it, right now.
It was at the Salem, Or, Honda lot having their liquidation sale. With the $2500 cash back incentive on the sticker $14995 it was down to $12,495 and then the dealership was offering an in house crediting rebate. Came out to right around $11,249 or something like that when it was said and done. If you financed it with the 0% interest for the first year, it brought the financing value to right around $10,199 or something like that after removing the compounding interest for the first portion of the loan on a 24 month loan. Of course that was all based around perfect payments and OAC, but I would have just taken the loan and paid early.... if I actually wanted it.

As for 08 or 09 I don't know the difference in the cars so I don't know for sure if it was an old inventory from end of 08 or if it was an 09 shipment, but it only had 12 miles on it and a new sticker, so it wasn't preowned. We just browsed it when we were thinking about replacing the wifes Sentra. Since I figured this was one of the one off sales the dealers do I also included the math for full sticker as well in my post.

EDIT: Asked my wife to see if I was remembering it correctly and she said it wasn't all a cash rebate, part of what we were factoring in was the tax rebate.

Are you driving it extremely hard? One of the other software developers we work with has one for going to his condo on the coast and averages a lot higher than that. Is most of your driving town and do you drive it like an S2000 or something?

I don't abuse it but I certainly don't worry about the mpg. If I reach 300 miles on 1 full tank, then I'm happy. I drive mostly stop and go traffic so that's why I'm not seeing more mpg. I think the biggest benefit is the cargo room and the fact that I don't have to fill her up with premium gas. When I moved from FL to TX, I had 2 sets of rims with tires and tons of room to FIT more crap. It's not a beautiful car but that's why I have the S2k.

I have heard him say that about cars from the former Soviet Union, so the Insight can not really be the first to get that designation.

Tan
how appropriate, considering these are the future of cars in the "changed" America

It's a good thing that diesel is available at every corner gas station in America!
My wife and I have NEVER had any problems finding diesel for our Jetta in 50k+ miles of ownership. It gets 600+ miles per tank, so just don't wait until you're running on fumes in unfamiliar areas.

I think it's a regional thing. I was thinking about a jetta tdi at one point, but theres only about 10 stations in a 20-mile radius that carry it.
