Help me think through car purchase
#41
I'm looking at gettting a fun DD. I've narrowed it down to 2 choices. I'm not really in need of alternative suggetions. I need 4 seats (the rear seats don't need to be real seats, just usable for occational taking my kids home from school.)
I've narrowed it down to these:
1. 997.1 tt cab manual
2. 997.2 tt cab manual
3. 2012+ gtr.
A few fun facts. I love convertibles and I live in So Cal. My wife wants me to get the porsche. I love the GT-r as I love japanese cars and having a warranty would be good, but no gtr manual or convertible. I want to keep the purchase price under 80k preferably under 70k.
I know I can NOT get number 2 because of this, but 1 and 3 are possibilities. So car talk keyboard warroirs, what say you?

If I needed a 4 seat convertible for DD duties (and had access to your budget) I think I'd look for a 6-series convertible.
You've already got your sports cars for your sporting needs.

I'd like to see you run w/ Geezer on a track w/ his 911 Turbo Cab, or even his Cayman R. He's much younger than 50, and FAST!

Some say all convertibles are chick cars and certainly not racecars.
I don't need a racecar. If I wanted one i'd get a dedicated racecar not a wannabe.
This all may be moot because next week I'm going to put an offer on a rare Lambo that might blow my whole wad. It's a longshot but we'll see.

While I feel like the Porsche would be better to drive I agree that the look of the verts are terrible and the hardtop is just somewhat bland. The GTR is a love or hate it look but it is slightly more interesting. Personally I would decide if you had to have a manual and that would make the choice simple. If you don't care then I'd go with whatever I could find the best deal on in the options I was looking for. Either way performance will be similar and drivability will be similar. I would also look at resale and I would guess that the Porsche will win that category so keep that in mind as well.
Also on the note of the Maserati I doubt they will be more reliable than an Aston or Jag. They do look nice though and I think they depreciate quick so a used one could be a great deal.
