Help me think through car purchase

Have you owned either? How are you basing this assertion? I own one, friends own the other and none of us are visiting the dealer outside of annuals...

Raj,
I thought you were going Gallardo, no?
I'd take the Porsche, especially after reading this years "best Driver's Car" article. The GT-R performs very well, and I have never driven it, but every time I saw a review, they remarked how great it performed but you felt disconnected.
I never cared for the GTR looks, which is personal preference, but I was just behind one for about 100 miles in Italy, and it really was boring looking.
For converts though, that Jag F-type is very nice. (I missed the four seats requirement) What does a Maserati 4 seater vert go for used these days?
Good luck with the choice and have fun shopping.

I tried and tried to want a Gallardo, but I'm too overexposed and to me the G, though an awesome car, isn't what I want as my supercar. This 911 or gtr is going to be my daily drive/commuter/fun car and I desire an lp640 roadster for my weekend/show/meet hypercar.
I've never driven a GT-r but have driven the 911tt cab. I really liked it. The manual won't be an issue for me because I rarely go to LA traffic and if I do I"ll take one of my vehicles with an autobox. I just think the Gt-r is an amazing engineering feat.

How about a Aston DB9 or Jaguar XKR?

Good friend has a V8 Vantage. He's on a first name basis with the dealer. Jag's may be different, but the Aston's aren't trouble-free.

OP said he didn't want alternative suggestions, so why are you suggesting that in the first place?
& you say VW is unreliable but than you say ur jag is reliable... you do realize jag is usually on the bottom of the list with vw right?

if you love the 911, you'll most likely love the GT-R if the auto box isn't a deal breaker. Try it out. I loved it when i drove it hard. (take it somewhere empty b.c it's a very difficult car to drive to the limit, same as the 911)

Just like the 996 Turbo S I had that needed a new fuel pump with 4K miles or the 2 Lemon Law returned CLS's my friend had in one year... "Trouble-free", that excludes the category of car he's looking at.

No question on the performance of a GT-R, but the looks... not so much.
