If you want MPG, skip the CRV and RAV4. My wife's '02 Rav only gets a little over 24 MPG on the highway, and the CRV is not much better at about 25, 26 if you are lucky. With climbing gas prices, I would personally want better MPG than that, but each to their own...

honda civic:
5th gen honda's (1992-95) were the best on gas, especially the civic vx&cx models. these are a premium price and because the chassis is light weight and shares common parts it has a theft problem. i like the looks of a 2002 honda civic si hatchy, just my like tho.
honda insight:
i almost bought a honda insight, again they are a premium price thingy. i am not big on a hybrid design. technology sux if you can do the same by vehicle reducing weight.
motorcycle:
i like the R1's but own a gsxr. come the friday drive home commute you can feel the stress build up. i get 41.111 miles per gal on the bike, why i dont know since i ride it hard. it is less frustrating in traffic since you can pass any car in 70 mila seconds. while riding the bike it always has a good feel despite i had some more than close calls. wear the gear.
