Default Heat Bog

It's hot, and I run the A/C. This isn't just for one car specific but just in general.

I remember people cutting out a hold in the intake box of the S2000 to prevent that heat bog, but I was wondering if or what we could do for any car experiencing such a load on a hot HOT day.

American cars don't really seem to have an issue pumping out COLD A/C no matter what time of year compared to the japanese counterparts I've run into... so guys what do you suggest?

Well the car will always feel like it is bogging when you have the AC on. It takes a fair amount of energy to spin the compressor. Due to the low TQ and low engine weight, it will be worse on a 4-cyl than a V8.

If you talking about actual "heat soak" or bogging cause by high temps, whatever you can do to get cooler air to the engine will help. I don't think that cutting a hole in the air box will help because then you will be sucking in hot air from the engine bay. The stock setup does a fairly good job of getting outside air. A snorkel should do a good job of getting more outside air. Just make sure that the size and shape of the snorkel does not restrict flow or you will hurt your top end.

Heat builds in a bubble. Keep moving forward and you'll never bog.

This may be outside some peoples budgets... but... When i was stationed in arkansas i had to deal with some nice hot 100+ degree summers with 80% humidity... it was brutal lol. After i got back from a deployment i added a PWJDM Ram Air intake, and a seibon mg style hood. I noticed a significat reduction in heat bog. only time it would happen would be stop and go traffic(like sub 10mph crawls...)and if then only occasionally. A freind of mine experienced similar results with a vented OEM hood(vents above the header) and an ebay snorkel. Other options would be finding the gold plated heat tape and wrapping the oem airbox and tube, or using some of that heat reflecting tape they use on hot water heaters. Its all a matter of your taste in mods and budget.

When I first got mine (AP1)it would stumble/bog on hot days with A/C on or off. I did the throttle body coolant bypass. Since then i never had the problem again. I used fuel hose since it can hold high pressures and only costed me bout $1.50 from the local mom and pop auto shop. Ive herd of people using ball bearings to do this but that seemed kinda sketchy to me. I found it on the forums but dont remember where. Feel free to ask qustions if ur intrested in doing this. Ill help as much as possible.

A turbo only exacerbates heat management issues!
