So the point of this thread is, a Mercedes is expensive.

In other breaking news:

* Triangles Have Three Sides
* World War II Happened
* Gravity Continues to Pull Things Down

I wouldn't pay for a mercedes with someone else's money.
Japanese cars make a compelling argument - get 95% of the same for much less money.

And some still argue that it's not just a badge.

I had no idea cars could debate.

comparative to just about a year ago, you would be correct. The American dollar is stronger. However, from a historical perpective (ie-2,3 years ago), it is not. We are about at the same place or in a worse position. Especially against the yen.

Further, as somone else noted, this is before the American dollar gets pounded again, most likely this year. I would not be suprised if the dollar goes to new LOWS against most other currencies very soon.
Everyone's printing money...the UK is close to going under (trillions in non-GBP debt held by British banks) and the rest of Europe isn't far behind, so I wouldn't expect USD to weaken significantly based solely on us running the printing presses nonstop.

A 2 yr. old S class or AMG usually goes for 50% of MSRP. So those are the best "deals" among MB cars.

Call it what you want, the end result is the same. Until our hyperinflation sets in.
hyperinflation? I hope that is a hyperbole...hyperinflation is 33% a year to 50% a month...

I doubt we are going to be that out of control...

Never doubt and its not hyperbole. If you acquaint yourself with some economic and history texts, you will see there are many periods throughout history that were marked by massive inflation. We are not so special where we are immune to hyperinflation....all the ingredients are there for it. I will be shocked if it doesn't happen actually.

I will be shocked if the U.S. does experience hyperinflation. I actually don't think things will get too much further out of control, barring any unforeseen consequences, of course.
