Got a free bike, need some help....
So my friend is moving away & he wheeled over his old Yamaha 250 and said I could have it for free. I took it; sure it's old and needs some work, but it has about 4000 miles on it and the price was right. I know next to jack about bikes, I'm the first to admit. All I know is it's a 1980 Yamaha 250cc, 4 stroke, looks to be single cylinder, street bike. From my searching on the web, i think it may be an XT 250 or SR 250, but haven't found pics of what it looks like yet.
It's been sitting around for a while, I think I might try to put it back into decent running condition. Anyone care to point me in the right direction? Web resources, knowledgable bike forums, anything will help.
Thanks a lot.

If you want to see a picture of an SR-250, go to google.com, click on "Images", and type in Yamaha SR-250. At least that should help you know what type of motorcycle it is. The XT-250 looks like a dirt bike.
It will be a little bit more work to track down SR-250 enthusiasts.

most likely.. the thing needs to be cleaned up.. The carburetor will definetly need to be washed out .Probably a new battery might be needed or even try to recharge the old one if possible.
Double check the brake lines.. Tires.. Lube the chain...

LOL!! I used to drive a blue 82 Yamaha SR250 during grad school! Not particularly exciting as far as bikes go but it got me from point A to point B. Nice starter bike. I ended up donating mine to charity for the tax deduction.
