I would stay away for Mitsubishi if at all posible. I just sold my 97 Eclipse GSX (all wheel drive, turbo) due to all the inherent problems of the car. The engin in the evo is the same as in the eclipse, the 4G63 engine, but with difforent heads. These engines are subject to crank walk, balence shafts freezing, oil pump shafts freezing, timming blet jumping teeth, a bad clutch... It seemed like something broke every month and cost me at least $500 a month just to keep it going. As for safty, the evo/lancer was rated as one of the worst in crash tests last year. So basicaly you're going to have to sink at least $4,500 into the car just to keep it reliable. I know what you're thinking, that I just had a bad car, but all these problems are very comon. I have two friend that we used to work on our eclipses together, and we all had the smae problems. I agree with the statment up above, go with the WRX STI, they also have the ability to ajust how much power you want in the frount vs the back. This is very usefull for ajusting to difforent situations, or conserving fule untill you race.

Here try this web sight www.dsmtuners.com and see all the problems people are having with the 4g63 engine for yourslef.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to add on some forced induction to the S2000 rather than trading it in on an Evo?

If I lived my life 1/4 mile at a time, I'd get an EVO too.

haha, I sold my S back in November and went to an 05 evo. After having it for a few months, I really am starting to miss the S again.

As for evo vs sti, my wife has an STi, and the evo is much closer to the s2k in terms of handling. It handles a good bit better than the STi, but the STi does feel like a better made car IMO.

Now, I decided to sell my evo an go back to a cheaper daily driver and build up an s2000 project car.

Best of luck with it. The evo is damn fast, but I decided that it was too much of a car for daily driving and I missed the S too much.
