I love the way the RX8 drives but they really do need to come with a spare engine in the back seat. I am okay with a 370Z coupe. Still a fun car to drive and a much more reliable engine.

OP - I think the real problem is that this car will be a money pit. She should buy an extended warranty before 100K that gives her a few more years to the car.

Surprisingly, I discovered the motor is the ORIGINAL motor. And honestly, it must have been well maintained because it's really in good shape. And runs pretty smoothly. I do speculate that the apex seals are starting to go because when I drove it it just didn't feel very quick, or as quick as I expected I guess. Granted, I've never driven an rx8 and still don't know what one is supposed to drive like. But it just felt like there was more to it and it just wasn't giving it it's all. No strong pull but a stead acceleration. Idk, hard to explain

That's fine and all but these motors have a track record I wouldn't bet against.

Figure a power train warranty is $1000 and a new motor is $3500-4000 (total ball park by me). Assuming she can get 36K 3 years it will likely pay and maybe for other things.

Well yea I understand that. She's taking it to Mazda within the next day or so and I'll get her to ask about an extended warranty
