I actually planned to run 10w30 mineral oil.. I live in the south and it gets pretty hot and from all I've been reading it seems 10w30 is good year round. I'll be researching more into it though.

Part of the problem with rotary is that the owners don't check the oil. Like early AP1 and after all these years there still people reporting blowing engines in the talk and engine sections of this forums because of that.

People talk a lot about problems but there isn't much to go wrong. Mostly is the carbon apex seals. The rotors, housings and side are very reliable.

I be looking for an R3 in the future. They are a blast to drive

we took my RX8 on a 240 mile drive today to visit family and I still have almost a qtr tank so at all highway speeeds (80ish) it does well enough... i really like RX8's... i like the looks of the R3 but for some reason (maybe weight) they don't seem to perform as well as the older RX8's?? Possibly they added more side air bags, etc... to make them seem slightly slower?

The R3 comes with a 4.77 rear end vs 4.44. The R3 requiere Third to hit 60. That's why slower

8 year warranty on the engine for RX8's.... most S2000's are way out of warranty that are in the same price range... My 2007 (in service 5/2008) has a warranty until 5/2016.. and it only cost me $12,500 with 20k miles on it..full leather, power heated seats, 6 disc cd, moonroof......

so it does have other things that were not even offered on an S2000.... I like S2000's (I had 7 of them) but prefer RX8's now..

An S2000 will destroy an RX-8 by train lengths above 60mph. And a few car lengths on the way to 60. An S2K can run 13.6 all day if driven properly. An RX cannot.. Lets not beat a dead horse and ruin this man's thread. His girl likes the car, that's the goal..
Neither of these are fast but they are fairly equal in performance... the S2000 does get to 130mph almost 4 seconds faster but they both take a lifetime to get to 130mph...... RX8 out brakes (and out breaks) the S2000..

Magazine racing...

http://media.caranddriver.com/files/...rx-8-specs.pdf
Cliff notes - Qtr mile in 14.6 @ 96mph, 70-0 braking - 145ft and skidpad of .88 ... 0-130 = 34.8 seconds

http://media.caranddriver.com/files/...ugen-s2000.pdf
Cliff notes- Qtr Mile - 14.4 @ 98mph, 70-0 in 166, skid pad .90 0-130 = 31.0 seconds

I have never heard of any stock S2000 running a 13.6... stock as in, the spare is still in, the tires are still at 32psi, the passenger seat is still in, etc...
He's right, guys have ran 13.6 stock just look at the stock times on this forum. Rx8 are slow man, ever race one in a s2000? You will walk it easy.

You picked the faster time posted for the rx8 ans slowest time posted fr an s2000 to compare the two?

Here you go.

2002 Mazda RX-8 0-60 mph 6.3 Quarter mile 14.8

2004 Mazda RX-8 (Manual) 0-60 mph 5.7 Quarter mile 14.3

2006 Mazda RX-8 Turbo by Protech Performance 0-60 mph 4.8

2007 Mazda RX-8 Hydrogen RE 0-60 mph 9.9

2009 Mazda RX-8 R3 0-60 mph 6.5 Quarter Mile 14.8

Vs

2000 Honda S2000 0-60 mph 5.7 Quarter mile 14.2

2004 Honda S2000 0-60 mph 5.7 Quarter mile 14.0

2006 Honda S2000 0-60 mph 5.4 Quarter mile 13.8

2008 Honda S2000 CR 0-60 mph 5.6 Quarter mile 14.2

2009 Honda S2000 Edition 100 0-60 mph 6.1

I could never understand someone who would buy an rx8 over an s. ap1 9k redline with more power all around, and will TYPICALLY last 3 times or more longer than the renesis motor.

That's a lot of dumb ppl lol jk but nah my gf definitely would rather have an s2k but her grandma is having to finance the car and since they have a fairly new expensive camper, it really made her limited to where she could finance.

The only way I would EVER own a rotary would be in an FD...... once the 13B blows up in it...upgrade to the 20b -heaven-

3 rotors => 50% higher failure rate . Good news is when you lose a rotor, you still have decent power! At an FD dyno and track day at VIR earlier this year, a turbo 20B made 400rwhp on 2 rotors. A bit more than I had when I limped home from an autoX event on one NA rotor in my old '90 RX-7 some years ago...

Despite the reliability fuel mileage downsides, I'd still rather have an RX-8 over a 350Z or G35. Definitely more of a "sports car" driving experience.
