Getting the urge to buy an old three-box sedan...
All the new tech in cars is great, but the isolation is numbing, and EVs are upon us.
Someone pointed out that when all cars have a battery and electric motor, they won't really stand out from each other other than styling, and eveything continues to getmore egg shaped.
So, I started to look at older stuff.
Basics like heated seats and electronic nannies are minimal, and other than aged parts, they seem pretty reliable other than a few things. Also, a V8.
Anyone want to walk me off this cliff?

If you're comfortable wrenching and spending money - have at it.
I'm partial to BMW's offerings e28, e30, e38.
Also a fan of the much older stuff
- 2002
- Ford Escort MK1 and MK2
- Datsun 510
- w102 Merc 190E

Old jags require attention. Period. The actual drivetrain is pretty stout and if you know them they're apparently designed to be worked on. But they always need something, and usually not cheap, otherwise you'd see alot more of them on the road still. But I like where your mind is at, but the reality is there are still a ton of modern cars that are relatively bullet proof and "simple" in that they will run for a very long time. I find myself these days looking at the IS300, or any of the 350 lexuses. Or an e90/92 330. Cool, well made cars that should last as long as anything.

I just bought my new car to replace the 2010 Si (it was written off because some asshat decided its easier to use another car to stop- saves the brakes and all).
but I digress...replaced with a 10 year old Honda Civic Si. Old is gold!

I've never seen an old Jag being described as reliable, they are great cars and all, and very affordable used, but they all need a sheet of plywood under them in your driveway or garage.

I like the thought of some older cars as well (20+ yrs old) but as others pointed out it simply gets expensive (and a labor of love) to keep them running. Obviously some cars are much worse than others (cost and reliability wise). For a "fun car" it makes sense for me to spend the time/money, but for a daily practicality and reliability is #1.

I have had the same wishes, but it would have to be a stick which is pretty hard to come by these days.
I also toy with Miata, or used Wrangler or pickup.
Would love all three but am too cheap to try to pull that off these days and the wife would kill me.
If I were going to do what you are looking to do Saki, I think I would have a garage lift first.
