The Genesis starts at $33k, the Camry $29k, the Avalon $35k. The Camry competes with the Genesis on price, the Avalon on size. What would you pick?
But the dollar figures you list are MSRP and not what people are really paying. The Genesis completes directly with the Avalon in price when you consider true market value. I know because I looked very very closely at both when I bought a car for my mom 1.5yrs ago. Discounts on Avalons are pretty deep...and not so much on the Genesis.
First to get the most of the luxury features that come standard on the Avalon Limited, you have to choose Option 2 for the Genesis.
TMV on the base Avalon Limited is about $31.9k. TMV for the Gensis w/Opt 2 is $32.5k.
If you want to add Nav to the Genesis, you're looking at a HUGE increase, because you are forced to get the Lexicon Logic 7 sound system with it. An amazing sound system, that not everyone needs if they just want to add Nav.
TMV for a Genesis w/Nav is $37.1k...TMV for an Avalon w/Nav is just $33.6k.
Suddenly, the price swings well into the Avalon's plus column.

Genesis.
The Toyota is ugly inside and out. Both are probably complete snoozes to drive, although I'd bet the Genesis is less so. I'd take the G8 over any of them if I needed a large sedan.

Hahaha...I'm the only one who voted for the Avalon.
Yes, the Genesis may be nicer in some respects, but when it comes to commuting, family transporting, reliability, etc., the Avalon is unbeatable. It's more luxurious and a little better-built than the Camry.

I really hate the Camry. The interior, the exterior, how it drives, how it sounds, the poor quality of the interior pieces... I've been very disappointed every time I've been in one.
