Gas Prices
#32
If they're democratically run countries then I don't take any pity on them. They have a problem with the high prices then do something about it through legislature. Nevermind that most of those astronomical fuel taxes subsidize all sorts of things, like rail transportation, etc. Anyway, you reap what you sow.
I believe the last time I filled up, Wednesday, it was $4.04/gal for 93 at the Shell station on South Saunders in Raleigh. My cars have required 93 octane since 1999 so I'm numb to it at this point. I only fill up at top tier stations too.

As much as most of us want to think it does not matter what the gas prices are.... well, it does as an economy. Someone has to pay for the fuel prices to bring you everything. We all know that those truckers are not going to eat the fuel cost spikes, nor the distributors. We will all pay for it. With less money power in our wallet, someone's job will have to pay for less purchasing power also.

I believe that is ~ $5.79/Gallon in U.S. currency, ~ 1 and a half times the price of what 92 is here in the PNW. Last time I filled up here it was $3.70/gallon for 87, $3.90/gallon for premium (92).

There was a TV news segment a few days back about how gas prices were coming down. I went out 2 days later to fill up... prices hadn't budged in my immediate area -- paid $4.239 for 93 octane.
