What gears are you running?

4.57s. Absolutely love them. They whine, but it's a good whine

Those are the exact ones I want... Does it get a bit annoying going 5k at 80 or is it worth it??

Then this guy will go on about how the FRS is junk and all that...

I don't think it's junk. I think they're cool. They just need more power.
I think he was implying that my friend would unrightfully say that the FRS was junk and blame the car for the failure rather than himself haha.
But I couldn't agree more, I love the FRS/BRZ duo. They're fun cars
You are correct. He'll blame the car, not the man in the mirror.
Ah, I misunderstood. Sorry about that.

It's just sad that someone would ruin a good car like that, for nothing.

The S2000 transmission synchros do shift smoother at higher RPM, but the engine itself is plenty happy to putt-putt around at 2000 RPM. You can be in 6th by 40 MPH.

Ive noticed that too! Car definitely likes being shifted around 4-5k, as someone said above

S2000 recommended shift points. (From the 2006 owners manual. Emphasis added.) You're not going to hurt the engine at these speeds and gears despite the sky is falling notes on "lugging" the engine.

Recommended Shift Points
Drive in the highest gear that lets
the engine run and accelerate
smoothly. This will give you good
fuel economy and effective
emissions control.
The following
shift points are recommended:

Shift Up Normal Acceleration
1st to 2nd 15 mph (24 km/h)
2nd to 3rd 25 mph (40 km/h)
3rd to 4th 40 mph (64 km/h)
4th to 5th 47 mph (75 km/h)
5th to 6th 52 mph (83 km/h)
40 mph in 3d gear is 4,000rpm in an AP2. Second gear will not pull to 60mph without hitting the rev limiter which means an extra shift is required for a 0-60 time.

i think it's safe to say Honda engines, in general, are MUCH more reliable than Subaru engines. Wasn't Toyota/Subaru replacing engines in early model 86's? reliability in WRX/STi boxer engines wasn't very high either. I'd feel ok driving like that with a Honda engine, but definitely not a Subaru engine.

Wow I've gotta try this on my car and see where it leaves me.
I've got an AP1 so revs might be different, depending. Did they change the gearing at all from AP1---> AP2?

This reminds me of another thread where a member is asking about selling the S2K and buying a '16 STi...
After seeing a few Subies with engine issues I'm just not too keen on ever owning one. Even though there being a pretty awesome Subie shop by the name of Circuit Motorsports pretty close to where I live....
