I drive a regular Contour LX right now as my winter-beater, and let me tell you, this has to be the biggest POS ever to come out of America (or Mexico, or wherever this thing was made). I should go find a used Contour SVT and testdrive it just to feel the difference because people never seem to say bad things about them.

I remember that SVT 4 cyl Mustang as something special at the time. It seems to me SVT didn't make the bolt-on aftermarket effort that the SRT guys are doing and that was a mistake. Maybe they were worried about increased warranty claims?
Not all Ford dealers did/do the Saleen/Roush/Baer modded cars so that has been an odd variation too.

there was no svt 4 cyl mustang, again, it was an SVO back in 84-86. They weren't that special to be honest. they handled a little better, had better breaks but were slower then their v8 counter parts.
The CSVT was a great car. Was named the best handling car under 30k back when they were first released. They are responsive and fun. Power was increased from 170 (standard 2.5 v6) to 200. Had a better tuned suspension. Forged internals, lighter flywheel, bigger breaks, fairly nice leather interior (great front seats), and other mods that i can't think of right now. contour.org is a great online community and there's a lot of info over there if you're interested. If i were to look for one again (they're fairly rare with only about 12k made over the 3 years) i'd try to find a 2000. last year for them and seemed to run better. Damn i too miss that car!
