I've said it before around here, I call people out who make really stupid comments. I found this one today on the Fit forums:
"that is the one thing that shuts people up now is gas mileage. the other day another one of the doctors that i work with who drives a c6 corvette came in and told me that he parked next to my match box car, he then laughed and giggled about how i drove a chick car.
i then told him lets start at the beginning of lime creek road (one of the twistiest and fun to drive roads in the austin area, when your charging at a good 55-60 mph its a good 9 to 10 minutes of curve after curve with alot of crazy elevation changes) and race to the nearest gas station, i will bet you 100 bucks you will kill me on the straights, but i will either keep up with you or completely crush you on the curves, and when we get to the gas station i wont have to fill up. after i said that he didnt say a word .
in this day and age i dont think there is any thing better than being able to keep up with cars that arent any where near our class on the curves and knowing that when all the fun is done that we more than likely wont have to gas up.
"
And yes, I told the guy that I was actually embarrassed for him.

But to drive the point home literally, lets get a vette and run it.

The only true advantage the Fit has is being narrow. In very tight corners that is an advantage because the car can run a closer to straight line through a turn. That narrow width also is why the Fit can run such impressive slalom times. In essence the width of the car represents the minimum distance you MUCH shift the CG of a car as you drive throught the cones. A wider car MUST pull a higher G number during a slalom run because it must move it's CG further each time it moves from one side of the track to the other.
This is also, BTW, one of the reasons a Miata does well in an autocross, the narrow car can again run a straighter line through the cones.
However, this advantage drops away at higher speeds. Almost all race classes limit maximum wheel base and track width. Around larger radius corners the difference between the arc scribed by a long wheelbase, wide track car is and a small foot print car is much less. At the same time a wider car with longer wheelbase will have better weight transfer and better mechanical grip. Yes, for a larger race track wider is better.
Few people really understand this but this is exactly why a car like the Focus SVT was able to about match the then current 911 Turbo through the slalom even though it couldn't come close to matching it on the skid pad. Same with the Fit.
In short, it's great the Fit owner loves his car and the Dr was a tool but the Fit owner is still wrong.

Oh, one more interesting spec, given that we are trying to compare relative strengths to each other:
Fit Cargo space with the seats up: 21.3 cu-ft
Corvette Coupe Cargo Space: 22.4 cu-ft
