i have a 90 miata 1.6 with an off the shelf flyin miata turbo kit. at 9 lbs it make right at 180 whp and 156 lb ft.

it goes like stink. in the not so distant future i will be switching to e85 (as it's no longer my daily) and more boost.

i really like the mazda speed miatas but if you want bang for buck it's hard to beat a boosted NA. at somewhere near 2200 lbs i have never had a mazda speed miata be able to keep up.

well, i don't need a 240 because i have a boosted miata which is better in every way known to man.

but, yes you are correct. i would like to see this car more along the lines of a modernized version of the 240 more so than another gigantic (both dimensionally and in terms of mass) sport compact.

i totally see what you are saying and i dont wish to sound like i am disputing it, but people are always quick to play the "new cars are heavier" card whilst chalking it all up to safety standards and equipment. certainly the extra airbags and just extra standard equipment in general makes modern cars heavier than cars of the 90's but i would say that the main reason for the extra weight is that they just keep getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

i dont think they should waste their time selling something as small as an mr-s but i dont think it needs to be as big as the modern civic, mazda 3, etc.

it would be so much easier to make the car lighter if it just wasnt so huge.

also, iirc, i thought the mazda speed 3 was over 3300 lbs. i dont care how you slice it, that is a ton of weight for a fwd car.

im surprised that the 5 door wrx weighs so little. that gives me hope. lol
agreed.

It's actually kind of funny too. Look at 80's civics, 80's 3series BMW's, or even my 85 corolla GTS. Size wise I dont even think the e30 would big enough to be a current subcompact! You'd think that the human race has in general gotten 40 percent bigger in the last twenty years.(even funnier when you look back to cars such as the bmw 2002's/datsun 510's. Or how about the honda s500/ect compared to the s2000. The old car was basically a red wagon with a lawn mower engine in the front.
I also find it funny that every car I like has gotten heavier over the years.... except the corvette which has continuously gotten lighter and lighter while not getting more and more expensive compared to other cars, infact I think they have gotten cheaper comparatively speaking.

I hope the entire body in those pics is camoflage. The concept sounds better than it looks.

Is it just me or what, what ticks me off about this car is that Toyota, who is a huge company, has to use Suburu to help build a sporty fun car? I know Toyota owns like 15-20% of suburu now, i don't know the exact figure, but come on toyota, build your own from ground up, don't use other people's technologies to build "your" sporty car. Toyota use to do it, supra, mr2, celica, etc. etc. To me this is sad.

Well, in the states this is going to be sold as a Subaru. In Japan, it will be sold as a Toyota. at the reasoning.
