February 2012 Sales
Honda had another record month for its new vehicles with the new Civic is absolutely flying off the lots now that they've resolved their maufacturing capacity issues.
Civic 27,087 +36%
Focus 23,350 +114.6%
Corolla 22,148 -17.8%
Cruze 20,427 +10.1%
Elantra 13,820
Jetta 12,838 +2%
3 11,275 +39.6%
Sentra 10,605 -15.8%
Impreza 6,334 +125.4%
Forte 5,706
Caliber 1,847 -46%
So, to put that in perspective, the Civic sold more than TWICE as often as the Elantra, sold more than the "car of the year" Jetta and Elantra combined and sold 16% more than the closest competitor.
Actually, that Focus number is pretty insane as well with a year-over-year gain of nearly 115%. Gotta say, the hatchback in Titanium trim looks pretty hot - just too expensive and still has the horrible transmission (and poor fuel economy). They have the looks and content - now they have to get a drivetrain to match.
CR-V 24,759 +24.5%
Escape 18,666 +3.7%
Equinox 17,851 +15.7%
Rogue 13,423 +17.5%
Rav4 12,677 -3.1%
Forester 5,565 -12.1%
Tucson 3,736
Sportage 3,410
Tiguan 2,280 +5%
CX-7 2,106 -10.6%
Grand Vitara 434 +16%
In other news, the small ute that CR marked LOWER than an old RAV4 design outsold the next closest competitor by roughly 33% and set a new record for February. Yeah, I think Honda has another hit on their hands.
That is all.

good to see Honda doing well in that segment.
i wonder, with good sales numbers on the Civic, is Honda going to rethink their move of quickly redesigning the current gen because of the bad reviews it has received?

Highly doubtful since they've publicly stated they will make the changes soon. They're also pushing incentives pretty hard on it right now...

And again they didn't get my hard earned $ when I picked up a new car last month
And I think this is more due to volatile oil barrel prices than Honda making strong designs. Plenty of people going smaller for fuel efficiency.

I am a little surprised by the Civic since it is sort of a blemish for Honda, but the refreshed CRV is a really nice car in that segment. My sister might pick one up soon.

Non-enthusiasts who are pretty much the exact target market of the Civic have no idea how horrible the current iteration is. They buy the car based on past performance/accolades and nothing more.
I'm just glad Honda realized how poor their design was.

A "strong design" is one that sells. Consumer Reports got 47 mpg (highway) out of a Civic LX, the greatest disparity between EPA (39 mpg) and actual mileage of any of their non-hybrid cars. Heck, the CR-Z got 45 mpg and was only rated for 37 mpg.
You may not like the looks of the new Civic (inside and/or outside). However, the drivetrain is far and away the best in the class as it generally matches acceleration for the pack but beats them all in fuel economy while providing a reliable and safe package.
Personally, for a $17k car, I don't sit around touching the dash all the time.
