Fatal Carrera GT crash

This really is devastating news for the Porsche community. Apparently this gentleman was quite loved by all and very giving and sharing. He would go out of his way to give anyone that desired a test ride in his CGT. It's always a shame when one of the good guys checks out.
I read about this before going to bed last night and it was depressing to say the least.
My condolences to his wife and recently newborn daughter.

Very sad to hear. Just goes to show not only teen-age kids are at risk. No matter your age or skill level you're at risk in a fast car.
I too am surprised they died looking at the cockpit, must have been massive internal injuries, since they had helmets. Very sad! Prayers and thoughts to the family.

Just curious? Does the GT have a regular shoulder belt or harness? If the tragedy was caused by high G-forces would a harness of helped? I just can't get over how well the cockpit stayed in tact, but the driver, especially, still died.

It's a carbon fiber chassis, it's going to hold up extremely well. G forces are what killed Ben (driver). You guys remember that video of a where a POS car hit a McLaren SLR (that has carbon fiber body panels) and the 20mph collision left a few scratches on the SLR and the whole front of the POS car smashed up?

I'm guessing neck injuries were the primary contributors to the demise of the participants. At what level do you need to start wearing a HANS device? The weight of the helmet may hurt as much as it helps in this sort of situation.
Sad situation.

With that kind of speed and impact you can get a dissecting aorta. Presumably the same thing that killed princess diana. The car and well restrained person stop, but momentum keeps the blood going. At that speed a large vessel like the aorta can't handle the stress. Of course neck injuries are a possible cause like somebody already mentioned.
That really sucks. He seems like a very well liked guy that got very unlucky
