My situation is;
SUV for the wife
GTI w. DSG as daily driver for me
S2000 with track mods as my trackday / weekend car

I have to say that I am a bit frustrated at the amount of sitting that the S2000 does. I just do not seem to have time to drive it enough to warrant having it. When you work long hours and miss weekends travelling, then leaving the kids at home and spending a full day on the track seems a bit selfish. I also take the oldest kid to school, so using the S2000 during the week is not really an option.

The cars are paid, so there 'cost' I feel is depreciation. That combined with the lack of opportunity to drive the S2000 is enough to make me seriously consider selling it. Then either sticking with the GTI as DD (and trackday option, if I ever get time to do it...) or upgrading to something sportier than the GTI with 4 seats. like C63, RS4, 911

Just get a E63/M5 and it would solve the family/toy car issue

I don't know if you could do the SM thing. It a very very different experience. But It is still quite fun. The best thing about is that the car is very forgiving AND who cares if you go off - get it dirty, muddy etc etc. The 5 point harness and raceseat is a big plus.

I went off in the GT3 last wknd at TWS. HOLY SHIT!!! I was almost panicing while going backwards and while trying to get out of the grass before I start a grass fire.

My wife refused to drive ours... so we gave it to my folks.

My wife is coming dangerously close to invoking squatter's rights on the RS4. She got a kick out of:

She's always cursing at the "damn women drivers in the left lane." She hates "chick drivers."

I guess that helps my campaign for the "second fun car."

Simple! S2000 for my daily driving to work, usually alone, and GS300 for going with the family. The Honda Pilot usually just sits there and waits to be needed for towing or carrying stuff.

Was this at a track event? What is your insurance coverage at a track event?

As much as I'd love a $65K-$70K car in your second option. I'd prefer two cars.

Right now I have a S2000 worth say $18K. To trade that in on a C6 ($48K) is another $30K. That means my car +$30K +TTL.

I could keep my S2000 and add a second car as a DD almost up to a new IS300.

For a M3, GTR, C63 those cars are all going to be over $60K and I wouldn't rule out $70K+, lets call it $68K take away the price of my S2000 is $50K difference. I could keep my S2000 and add a loaded IS350 or 335i for the same cost.
