Default Factory Five GTM

kit cars are coming of age....why drive a bloated, common C6 when you can drive this, and it weighs 600 POUNDS less?

a buddy and I are seriously considering getting one of these kits, does anyone have experience with them?

Looks like it would be really fun but hardly a Vette replacement. The Vette has a trunk.

Would rather have one of their Cobra replicas.

Because Factory Five says the completed car will still cost between $35k to $45k in parts alone, and that doesn't include the time you spend on it (250 to 300 hours, they say. Figure on adding an additional $30k to the price if you hire somebody else to build it.)

I'm not knocking the car, it's awesome in several ways, but it should be enjoyed for its own kit-car merits, and not considered as an alternative to a factory built C6.

It is a nice kit, and the performance is certainly there. That said, while it looks like an exotic car, it also looks plenty kit enough to seem pretty unrecognizable by the great unwashed. I don't know if it will ever happen, but until a kit car looks 95% like, say, an F430 or some other real-deal exotic, the cost will be hard to justify. I would consider something like this, but as others have said, a Corvette Z06 costs as much or less, and while it performs "worse", it also has all kinds of comforts this GTM does not. I can only see getting the GTM as a track car really.

Truly, IMO for the zr1 chevy/GM should have rebodied with a supercar body rather than a slightly modified corvette body.
