MICHAEL SCHUMACHER took his 66th Grand Prix victory at today's Spanish Grand Prix ahead of an impressive display from Renault and Fernando Alonso.
An electrifying start saw Fernando Alonso pass Barrichello and challenge Michael Schumacher down to the first corner. The German defended his line into the first corner as Rubens Barrichello challenged for the lead around the outside. A firm response from Michael Schumacher forced Barrichello to take to the grass verge. The Brazilian retained second place from Fernando Alonso.
Further down the grid there was drama as Kimi Raikkonen ran into the back of Antonio Pizzonia

Plus, just to remind Speed Channel viewers, they are going to have a special show on next Sunday, May 11 at 9:00 PM about the decade that Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost raced each other and the emergence of young Michael Schumacher. Should be a good program.

That was a good race. Glad I got up at 6am, hung over, to watch it. Would have liked to have seen Kimi make a charge from the back, but I guess he got burned by the stupid '03 qualifying rules. Renault seems competitive with Ferrari despite horsepower shortcomings, now if Williams could figure the car out we'd have a great 4 team shootout this year.

SPEED Channel has secured the broadcast rights to the last 10 years of F1 races, hence the new bi-weekly Sunday night show title: "F1 Decade."
On Sunday, May 11 at 9:00 PM ET, SPEED will show the 1993 F1 GP of South Africa.
I will be posting announcement threads as appropriate.

Anyone else think we're going to be seeing a lot of Alonso v. Kimi over the next 10 or so years?
There is a chance we are looking at the beginning of a new era.
I was real impressed, again, with Alonso's drive.

One great race does not a career make!

Tom - I think you could arguably include Mark Webber in that group. He has had good runs despite being in 2nd and 3rd tier equipment. As the current guard starts retiring (MS, RS, DC, Rubens, etc), he may get a chance to prove himself.
Don't forget JPM, either.
I wasn't that impressed. Alonso's Renault was faster through the 3rd sector which is all handling, but lost ground in the horsepower/aerodynamics first sector, and Mclaren and Williams both have the power to hang with the F2003 in a line. Since both Kimi and DC were relegated to watching on TV, who is to say what they were capable of in comparison.
Don't forget JPM, either.
