Default exhaust on a 92 Typhoon

I need to get a new exhaust Cat back on my 92 Typhoon. I can replace the muffler with what is on it, a Dynomax Super Turbo, or with a Ravin from Midas for about the same price. Just wondering if anyone had any insight on it and/or if it is worth looking at something more upscale like the Borla or ATR Performance?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

I have a couple questions about you Typhoon. I used to own a '93 from '93 - '96. It was amazingly fast off the line, but the suspension was complete crap. I went through 3 sets of leaf springs in the three years.

The dealerships told me that it put out too much torque for the engine to handle. Have you had any suspension problems?

I also went through about 4 starters before they realized that the alternator was bad.

I tell ya, as soon as the warranty was up on that, we unloaded really quick.

I don't mean to knock it too much, I really enjoyed driving it when it wasn't in the shop. And besides, there was no better sleeper car on the market back then. How long have you owned it?

i had a ATR exhaust on both of my typhoons..... light years better than stock. I think there is a guy rkkustom who sells them for $395 delivered...... They look much nicer, etc..... than a shitty old Midas hackjob that will cost you $250 in the end. ATR says it adds 17hp or something like that... It definately made the truck(s) run better.

How many miles on yours? i had a 1992 teal and a 1993 black. I should get another one some day.

i bought both of mine used and the first one had a warranty... new alternator, new valve seals, new heater core....... sold....... the second one.... rear differential...new heater core..... gas smell all the time that no one could figure out.... tranny went out on the guy who bought it from me..on his way home...

Both had 33k miles when I sold them..... No warranties available any more on them.

Wow, I guess I must be lucky.

I have a 92 i bought in early 98 with 25k miles on it. I now have 46k miles on it and have replaced:

1 cv joint
1 alternator
and now the exhaust. Besides that I LOVE it. very fun to drive.

Thanks for the input, it's looking like ATR is the way to go.

i assume you have visited the forurm www.syty.net ?

www.sportmachines.com also has lots of good info, and even some surveys to see who likes what producst best (exhaust, shocks, etc...).

I forgot to mention that my 2nd typhoon would not shift into 4th gear at Wide Open Throttle and instead would just smack the rev limiter..... soon after I figured that out, it started to drip oil onto my garage....and my fog lights had a short which would short out my horn and some other interior stuff.... I could brag forever.

Typhoons look cool, haul people and have a decent ride....they just suck for reliability (in general).
