EVO or STI

you can feel the turbo lag in both vehicles, but I personally go for the STi; It has a unique sound (unless you replace the header with an even-length piping one), while the evo's engine is 'just another turbo'd 4banger'

cbeyond: the 6th gear is not a cruising gear, thus the fuel economy is not improved, and there is no actual proof that the 6spd tranny suffers more stress than the 5spd.
geoff: i see, yea in that case the STi might be the better car for him what year is he goin for? hopefully not the 06 lol. jk

Why would there be a degredation in fuel economy? That one makes no sense to me. The sixth gear should improve fuel economy at highway speeds. Also not sure what you mean by "extra stress."

STI for me, any car manufacturer can make an all out track car, takes a special manufacturer to get as much of it into a driveable package. The STI has the quality and the few compromises it makes in terms of performance is more than acounted for in the driveability gains. If Subaru wanted to beat Mitsu, they could have but chose a more well mannered route (granted both cars are still hardcore).
Also, the boxer motor in the STI has been tried and true as it is basically the same motor from the older STIs, granted it doesn't go as far back as the 4g63, it still has a tremendous amount of credibility; fact is the 4g63 will be more popular here in the states.
Also, I am curious on how an exhaust, intake, ecu work, and a boost controller can make 300whp on pump gas without any fuel/turbo/block upgrades.
Fact of the matter is that both cars can be tuned to whatever spec you want it for, and the prices are going to be close. Still, I can't get over the valve tick, crankwalk, and tranny problems that plagued DSMs of the past and WRXs run rather well...
I owned a 95 Talon TSI AWD, loved it, but had they brought over the WRX coupe of the time, I definitely would've went with that.

4G63T has always been paired with a 5-speed tranny. Added extra top gear results in extra stress, less fuel economy, and extra weight.

No need for an intake either, K&N filter in stock box flow well enough.
TBE, Boost controller, Flash/SAfC tuning is all that should be needed for close to 300 awhp

called the Warrtalon package (warrtalon is s2ki's wisonsin on the evo board lol, except he's not a mod). $1270 with 330whp on pump gas...pretty impressive if u ask me.
honestly if u've driven both cars, they dont feel drastically different. the STi doesn't feel a lot more forgiving on the road, neither does the Evo feel extremely loud/bumpy compared to the STi. the STi has more amenities, and that's about it.
geoff: see u next wed
