R32.
New England is Subaru territory... So my heart would be with STi if between Subby and Mitsu.
There's no new R32's, so tough one on that.

I like the look of the EVO better than the STI but an EVO is a Mitsubishi. I love the performance of the STI better than the EVO. Next time you drive behind an STI take a close look at it and tell me if it doesn't look like a Toyota Echo

I'd take the STi with the new look hands down over the current Evo. If I could wait a year and a half, I'd take the new evo judging from the concept car.
I do like the Sti limited interior. It hides the fact that it is a souped up economy car a little.

I'm looking at both too. I'll be buying one or the other probably late summer/fall when the discounts kick in. To me it's pretty much a tossup. But I am leaning towards the Evo IX. My main considerations on the differences were:
2006 STi
+There is a Subaru dealer only 5 mi away from me
+Has cruise control
+proven commodity in SCCA Solo2 A Stock and STU
+better torque
-Slightly higher pricing
-heavier by about 80lbs
-Seats are not as good
-2nd gear is too short for autoX
2006 Evo IX
+Much better factory warranty
+I like the styling better
+Can get better deals on new ones
-Nearest Mitsu dealer to me is nearly 30 miles away
-No cruise control
-peaky torque
Tossup on the following:
Reliablity
Depreciation
Performance
Wheels and tires availability
Insurance cost
Parts availability
Theft risk
