Awesome responses. I learn more facts here than I do at the dealer, and/or evolutionm.net. The intelligence is appreciated.
I am considering this car for the space it provides over my S.
The intent, is to build an illusive mid 400rwhp car. From experience, I enjoy the feel of a responsive car of this power range and its usability (sp?), and while modding my S, I have seen the back of a few Evos. Which does motivate me to spend more time and R & D on building my S...I love this car!

So, I am a at a crossroad. Build (read: internals/turbo) my S, or pick up an Evo IX and start from there. Again, thanks for the comments and advice, its concrete.
By the way, love the pics, of course much appreciated..

Anyone here break 500awhp with an Evo? Does the engine have to be built? I am asking 'cause the S, costs $$$$ after about 350rwhp...

Erick
No the Engine dosnt have to be Build to hit 500Whp. My Buddy has a Evo IX with a Gt35R over 500Whp. Beats the Crap out of it. I mean launching it Alot Races it EveryWeek. And hasnt Broken. But he dose Work at Devo Tunning.

And the Rust Spot it is true. My evo had a lil Rust on the Wing. To ppl it was only a lil Spot to me it was the End of the world. I like things to be perfect in my car. Idk about you Guys. Dont get me Wrong. I love Evos. When ever i see One ( wich is alot) its like Seeing a Ex Gf you loved with a new Bf.

Seems like $10000.00 USD on an Evo goes alot further than on an S. Anyways, Laskey Racing has my block. I am building the S from the ground up, STILL, these Evos get my attention. Gotta luv em'.
Are the STi comparable? They are alot more common around these parts..Miami.

Erick

Just want 500rwhp...DAMN IT !!!!!

STI is to the Evo what the AP2 is to the AP1, except with the differences being a little more pronounced.

how the warranty on ur Evo holds up depend entirely on which dealership u choose to do business with. period.

stock IX's have dipped into the high 12'. with a tbe, mbc, and flash it's capable of very low 12's, and a few have dipped into the high 11's. (dependent on either 91 or 93 oct)

03-04 cobras will MURDER any year Evo in an acceleration contest. from a dig the Evo could probably stay with it till around 60-80mph. from a roll if the terminator has no traction issues it's bye bye Evo.

mod for mod is pretty much the same thing. in a straightline the terminator's hands down the better platform IMHO.

but yea 500whp is attainable on the stock block even on pump gas (though i personally think this is a bit risky). there are a few 500whp+ stock block Evo's that have been pretty reliable though, it basically comes down to the tuner and how well the car's tuned.

that said, an Evo with a gt35r on 91 pump = lag. can't defy the laws of physics...it's a 2.0L 4 banger after all

keep in mind u could always go 2.3 or 2.4

stock for stock this may fly.

however with minor bolt-on's the Evo is much better than the STi's...this is due to the Evo's bigger turbo from the factory.

handling wise the STi tends to understeer more than the Evo stock for stock.

STi's interior is better though, and it makes a better daily IMO.

The interior is debatable. I happen to like the interior in my IX SSL.

The STi sounds much better than the Evo. That flat four makes a beautiful burble.
