it has more mod potential as far as I can tell. It has a semi-closed block with more displacement. A friend of mine owned (her family did anyway) a rally team when I was in college (back in 99). They owned a jdm spec lancer and a euro spec sti. Both cars had roughly the same HP, but the fastest car on the dirt and gravel was the sti. I don't know about the road since these were dedicated rally cars. The AWD system of the sti (even then) was better, but the lancer was more reliable. Sub had (still does as far as i can tell) issues with the transmissions. They dropped in a dog box though and were done with those problems.

Pretty much what I have seen on this thread is a bunch of mis-info and speculation. The sti is heavier, wrong. The sti won't handle as well...hhmmm...we will see. The only thing we know for sure is the Sti is more expensive, has 6 speeds instead of 5, comes stock with a bunch more HP and torque, has a more sophisticated AWD system (especially the center diff), and neither car is very good looking!!

If you like the evo, fine, but don't build it up to more then it is. And there is no reason to speculate about how it is better then a car that isn't even out yet.

first off, driving my evo is a dream.. i've always dreamed of owning one, and it is definately nothing i will regret in the future...

one thing, the evo max boost comes around 5k at 19psi, then dips down to 17psi at red line...

although you can get a AVC-r or any other boost controller and boost it up all the way to 21psi all the way to red line...

right now, i am enjoying the car stock, trying not to mod, but who knows how long that'll last

Not without fuel mods. I know plenty of people who have datalogged the car and have stock knock unless they use 94 octane gas.

Evo's suck...

13.46 (call it 13.5) for the 1/4 mile with my lazy ass shifting it.

It does handle damn well.... so far, I am not that impressed with the braking, but I am changing fluid very soon..... supposedly the stock pads are awesome even at the track (2 day weekends and still pad left).

Nah, some good old fashioned ignition retard should eliminate that pesky knocking (to a certain degree of course)...

Anyway, 6 hours until I get my first taste....
