i think one usa magazine has the regular 911 (335hp?) at 12.8@109mph or so....... that seems too fast for the weight also.....
The 911 and 911 S have both been tested against the 400/400 C6 that weighs the same or less than the 911 and (usually the 355hp version has been as fast or faster).

Plus, since it's a transverse (instead of longitudinal) tranny, there are less power losses, no driveshaft/inefficient U joint, etc.

I think both 997 models have 3.6 liter motors.
3.6L and 3.8L
So what's up with that? Put the 3.4L in the Boxster Coupe

I was going to correct y'all, but figured I'd let you figure it out amongst yourselves. It is indeed 3.6L and 3.8L. That S motor rated at 355hp is probably closer to 380-390 based on some trap speeds I've seen. That, plus the more aggressive gearing/weight distribution allows it to hang with a C6 six-speed. Of course, at $80k base, it had better be able to hang.

Aside from being impractical, how would the Atom not cream the 911S (at half or less its price)?
Basically the half price of an Atom must be used for a second car in order for it to be viewed as alternative to a 911. But I guess you could get a 330Ci + Atom for same price.

^ also remember that english roads SUCK. the atom is setup with a track oriented suspension...

I would expect the Atom's massive frame to hold up just fine in a collision. Look those monster tubes. You don't really think body work is what protects you, right? And why would the Atom be difficult to drive in rain? The torque curve of the iVTEC engine is very flat. Just short-shift and don't stomp on the gas. Yeah, not a car for latte drinking posers...
Was luggage capacity a factor in EVO's test? I commute on a motorcycle. Why would I not consider the Atom as a daily driver?

No long straight super highways here, just lots of twisty back roads to enjoy the 'S'
