325 hp for the 3.4L and 355 hp for the 3.6L (I believe).

The 911 and 911 S have both been tested against the 400/400 C6 that weighs the same or less than the 911 and (usually the 355hp version has been as fast or faster).

^ one reason is that they launch really well. Check out the 60 foot times, I've seen them cut below 2 second 60 foots, with even a mediocre driver. engine over the butt DOES help I guess.

Plus, since it's a transverse (instead of longitudinal) tranny, there are less power losses, no driveshaft/inefficient U joint, etc.

I think both 997 models have 3.6 liter motors.

:cough: we're both wrong...

3.6L and 3.8L

So what's up with that? Put the 3.4L in the Boxster Coupe

I was going to correct y'all, but figured I'd let you figure it out amongst yourselves. It is indeed 3.6L and 3.8L. That S motor rated at 355hp is probably closer to 380-390 based on some trap speeds I've seen. That, plus the more aggressive gearing/weight distribution allows it to hang with a C6 six-speed. Of course, at $80k base, it had better be able to hang.

The Euros dislike Ameican cars and fawn over Porsches. Aside from being impractical, how would the Atom not cream the 911S (at half or less its price)?

Would you ever drive an Atom in the rain or would you ever like to drive an Atom on the street where if you crash into a Miata you're toast?

Basically the half price of an Atom must be used for a second car in order for it to be viewed as alternative to a 911. But I guess you could get a 330Ci + Atom for same price.

^ also remember that english roads SUCK. the atom is setup with a track oriented suspension...

still, though, that's one of the most amusing TopGear videos, watching the dudes cheeks flap

I would expect the Atom's massive frame to hold up just fine in a collision. Look those monster tubes. You don't really think body work is what protects you, right? And why would the Atom be difficult to drive in rain? The torque curve of the iVTEC engine is very flat. Just short-shift and don't stomp on the gas. Yeah, not a car for latte drinking posers...

Was luggage capacity a factor in EVO's test? I commute on a motorcycle. Why would I not consider the Atom as a daily driver?

I can't agree with this statement!

No long straight super highways here, just lots of twisty back roads to enjoy the 'S'
