Default EVO car of the year...911 S

I haven't read the article yet. In case you missed it, 911 S won the CAR magazine performance car of the year.

The EVO COTY contest included:

911 S (350hp)
EVO FQ-340 (345hp)
Elise (189hp)
Vauxhall VXR220 (217hp)
SLK350 (272hp)
Audi RS6 plus (473hp)
Impreza (350hp)
Monaro (377hp)
Exige (189hp)
Clio (180hp)
GTi (197hp)
Maser GS (400hp)
Atom (275hp) -->>1100 lbs 0-60 3.4sec
Boxster (236hp)
Cooper works (210hp)

Unlike CAR contest, this has no "super-cars" no Ford GT, no Lambo, no F-car etc...

The three most expensive cars are: Maser 66K, Audi 66K and the 911 65K

Exige 2nd
Cleo 3rd
Boxster (non-S) was 4th
Elise 5th

Since I'm now into the Boxster more than ever before, here's what they say about it: (32K)

[QUOTE]The worry, at least among 911 fans is that Porsche has put too much of what it knows into the Boxster.

...has the talent to keep its big brother honest yet costs half the price, a fact that must be giving Lotus, TVR, and especially MB sleepless nights.

Rai :talking to self:

Porsche must know a thing or two about sorts cars especially sports cars for the street. I wouldn't mind owning one even tho the Z06 OWNES all cars.

997 S, is rated at only 355 hp conservatively. I was also suprised it hit 12.6 at 112. The exterior design is also very appealing, same classic 911 look... I hope they never change it.

A porsche is not really about the numbers, it's a different driving experience than the corvette. Sure, the corvette does a lot of things better, but it's nowhere near the package the 997 S is.

How they got that thing to feel that right with the motor out behind the car... beyond me!

I completely agree. Even our 996 C2 feels just right. I've got to test drive the 997 one of these days!

I just wish the 911S didn't base at $79k USD. Was the C6 not allowed in this event??

I think the C6 is too new to the UK market. It's featured in the same issue in the driving impressions section of the magazine, where it garnered a 4/5 rating. I speculate that it would not have done very well in the event, as Evo consistently values steering feedback, handling over less than perfect surfaces, and nimbleness on twisty UK b-roads.

i think one usa magazine has the regular 911 (335hp?) at 12.8@109mph or so....... that seems too fast for the weight also.....
