with you guys above. I think they should just do away with Acura, Lexus, Infinity.......etc. and just let them be what they truly are. They are symbolizing manufactuars that doesn't even exist.

Toyota announced recently that they will start using the Lexus name in Japan. To separate the dealerships I believe. Make Lexus more exclusive and strictly upperend. Like here in America.

We buy Hondas and Nissans for the badge. Should we be shot?

Honda, Toyota, and Nissan were forced to separate their top models to comply with Congressional law, so we got Acura, Lexus, and Infinity dealers. The Acura logo is supposed to be a compass or calipers, ie, "accuracy", but it does remind one of a squished H.

What Congressional law? Acura was the first to release their branding in the US. After this, Lexus and Inifiniti was introduced.
It's about $$$ MONEY $$$, not law.
It's quite simple why they (the Japanese automakers) did this. Here's an example. As a Honda consumer grew from a Civic to an Accord and then perhaps another Accord, the consumer eventually got to the point where an Accord no longer had what they wanted. Status. So, the Acura name badge was introduced to retain a higher percentage of their original customer base. And it worked. So, naturally, Toyota followed suit (very quickly) with Lexus and Nissan with their Infiniti brand.
One big difference with these 3 brands was how Lexus took on the challenge. Setting their marks for Mercedes-Benz. Remember their slogan, the Relentless Pursuit to Perfection? I feel that Acura and Inifinti are still playing catch up but I feel that Lexus has slumped in the recent years as well.
That had nothing to do with Congressional law.
