One of the teams in the WRC last year, OMV Cronos I think, calculated how many tons of C02 emissions they produced and bought carbon credits to offset it. Transportation and shipping were the biggest expense, the cars themselves were pretty low down the order for polution.

i was gonna say the same thing...cross country is pretty eco friendly, although athletes wear shoes made of rubber soles, which is made from petrol. I suppose you could have a foot race with the people wearing no shoes...

I follow MotoGP like a hawk daily almost. They've instituted what they could to 'clean' up their act (the bikes). They reduced fuel rules to decrease what the tanks can hold. Their MPG on the track is as good as a SUV, and that is a 1million + dollar bike hitting over 200MPH down the long straights. They also changed the rule on tire allotment for race weekends. It's no longer unlimited, 31 total tires and that includes race tires AND qualifiers.
