Default Environmentally Friendly Racing?

Hey everyone,

I just found an interesting organization that I think is doing good for the planet, and I'd like to know what you think.

They're taking a racing concept (which is usually the worst polluting form of sporting and entertainment) and green-ify-ing it by requiring that the cars be 100% zero emission. Plus, they make sure the entire "circus" that revolves around the race is as low-polluting as possible. And, on top of that, they give back to the communities they visit by hiring local foster youth to work the events.

Is it too good to be true? First and foremost, I've never heard of a 100% zero emission race before. When I think of racing, I usually think of NASCAR and F1 vehicles that are competing to learn who can burn the most fossil fuel the fastest. If it is legit, it seems like an interesting endeavor.

Check them out. What do you think?

too lazy to read those links, but unless it runs on potatoes it isn't really zero emission. If it runs on electricity, unless that electricity came certified from solar, wind, hydro, or geothermal sources it burned something to generate electricity. Even then, the batteries are horrendous for the environment when you dispose of them...

Pfft, it's not real racing. Not as in circuit let's see who is the fastest. It's just downhill box cars that they are calling zero emission racing. Nothing new. at all.

racing karts generally have 2 stroke engines w/ carbs, running pre-mix. They can generate quite a bit of pollution and use a lot of fuel for their size.

There's probably a thousand times more gas consumed by the spectators getting to the race than the 20 or so cars use in an F1 race.

I was on the solar racing team in my college. Now that was environmental racing. We raced on public roads in traffic too, across the country. It was damn fun.

Shoot, bicycle racing has only been around for a hundred years or so.
