a dyno isn't always accurate with the rpm signal.
Last I heard it was 8250-8300

I had a 01 GT-S with 172whp on dynojet. No cat, slight ported head, Injen CAI, custom 2.5 exhaust.

14.3@ 98
Seems that there are differences beyond just the 02 7800 limit.

2000-2001 it's ~8350 (so i was off by ~50)
2002- 7800
2003- ~8350
2004- 8200
2005- 7800

yay toyota!

that was my only disappointment with the elise, its motor. yes, it provides enough power to outrun an S, but its a celica motor. i was excited when it was coming over because its an exotic, rare car; and it should have an exotic, rare engine. obviously using a 'unique' motor designed for the elise would have jacked up the price a bit, but it would have made it more desirable, imo. as for which motor is better, the F20/22 have more displacement, and more power so i dont see how you would say the elise motor is 'better'. a good way to think of this is, would the elise be faster with the celica motor, or the s2000 motor? the s2000 motor...

The Celica engine is good for the Elise b/c it's light and compact, while making good, fun power for a car it's size. IMO, being a Toyota (actually Yamaha) engine is an asset, b/c it's reliable and cheap/easy to maintain.

It had a nice rare exotic engine in Europe that produced less power over the entire power-band, was more expensive, was less reliable, had worse gas-mileage, and polluted more. In everything except weight the 2ZZ is better or equal to the Rover. Yamaha produces some of the best high performance engines. Unfortunately, in the Celi the 2ZZ just wasn't much fun. You couldn't keep it in the upper lobe because the gearing was too long on the Federal version and the red-line was too low. Lotus did quite a bit of work on the engine mapping and intake bumping the power slightly and increasing the redline. Couple that with the Euro gearing and 800 pounds less weight to drag and the powerplant is actually really attractive. Whats not is the 400 pounds which was picked up and the ~$50,000 price tag due to the weak dollar.

Just from looking at used prices the 2ZZ is about half the price of the F20C. Is the F20C $4000 better than the 2ZZ? For a car as light as the Elise? Probably not.

Used Engine prices are related to alot more factors than how much the engine cost to make originally.

I do kinda prefer the S2000 engine more. I've driven both S2000's and Lotuses.

eh, i've met the owner of forcedfed (my friend works for them) and they have a different view. let's just say there were some "politics" involved.
I was at the test. I'd have to say I disagree about your "politics" comment.
BTW, the Forcefed car was smoking by the end of the test day.
